WHAT IS FIAR?

Financial Improvement and Audit Readiness (FIAR) is a U.S. Department of Defensemandated methodology that offers sound financial management and reform.

The Chief Financial Officers Act of 1990 first established such a requirement for audits of financial statements. In 2010, the National Defense Authorization Act directed the DOD to ensure all financial statements were validated as audit-ready no later than Sept. 30, 2017. The Office of the Under Secretary (Comptroller and Chief Financial Officer) presented those mandated expectations.
